I wish there was a 4.5 rating, as I think the Birdy is worth more than four, but there you go! I used to ride a brompton 2 miles to the train station, then ride the train 6 stops (it's a suburban train in Budapest) and then ride the last one-mile leg to work. Once I got the Birdy, I found myself ignoring the train and riding the whole way - and enjoying it too! The ride is so vastly superior to the Brompton, that I can forgive its much larger, clumsier fold. If I could change anything, it would be to convert the gears from derailleur to SRAM 7-speed and that's why I only awarded it four out of five. If you're after a more upright riding position, be sure to get the comfort stem. I'm glad I did. I will yield this to the Brompton; the luggage options are much the better - another reason for the lost star, I suppose...

It's my first folder and I chose it over the Brompton because of the ride. My first ride on it was 15 miles. Here's my view. On the plus side: this bike rocks - the ride is as good as a non folder. It's fast and smooth. It goes over bumps and road holes without difficulty. It can carry plenty of luggage on the very clever rack and it's a light beast. On the minus side - whilst folding is very easy, the folded size is larger than a Brompton. If you're a packed train commuter, this bike is not for you. Personally I love it. I can unfold it as quickly as a Brompton and pull away from the Bromptoners with easy. I've now had the bike for a month, using it every day. Steering is terrific. Cornering a delight. I made the right choice. And if you don't believe me - test drive a birdy and a brompton one after the other. You will definitely get my point.

This is a good bike to ride. The small wheels + suspension concept from the moulton, but in a true folding form. The front suspension is particularly clever. Beautifully made and it folds up small - not as small as a Brompton, but still easily fits in the back of a car/ can be taken on a train. Brompton ride is pants after the Birdy. Only minus points are its expense, and the w*nky name, but the stickers peel off, and I have forgotten the pain of purchase. I am not planning on trading mine. [However, the limited edition black version with the rohloff hub is sorely tempting, although it is eye-wateringly expensive.] If you want to have one folding bike which does most things very well, this is it.
