| I bought my Pino from Kinetics in 2005 to use as a child-carrier and family tourer. Since then I've done two long, and many shorter, tours, as well as regular shopping trips and fun rides. The first tour was 8 weeks to France with full camping kit, a 4 year-old up front and two smaller kids in a trailer behind. The second long tour was with an adult up front, towing about 75kg of equipment in a trailer AND full camping kit in panniers. Basically it is a superb ride, but climbing takes some getting used to an I had to lower the gearing quite a bit for touring. You can't stand up on the back and push, so need a low crawler gear for the hills. Performance wise, the Rohloff gearing is flawless. Two small problems: The headset on the rear is a bit of a weakspot and works loose, though this seems to have settled down now. The front brake went at the start of the last tour. The pad jammed in place so I had to fit a shimano mechanical brake at the roadside and leave the Magura with the shop for repair. The Magura brakes have otherwise been reliable and perform very well indeed. They will happily stop two adults descending the pennines with over 100kg of kit! It is also awkward to fit a child-trailer with the Rohloff. Ben suggested using the disc mount, but this came loose on an emergency stop once, which was rather scary, so loads of locktite if you use this bodge! Overall the bike is great fun and as it grows with the kids it should be good for another 14 years of family riding! The shorter wheelbase also makes taking it on trains easier. |
