| I bought a Thorn Raven Tour with a Rohloff hub after much research. I wanted a bomb proof, all purpose bike that i could ride with minimal maintenance - and this is exactly what i have. The hub is superb. I have no issues with changing gear under load, the hub changes gear so quickly that you are soon able to time the change so that it is silky smooth and instant. The oil change kit is pricey, but i bought in bulk as the bike was a long term purchase, so it is cheap (around £2.50 every 3000 miles.). The chain has lasted 12000 miles before changing and the sprocket on the hub (and the chainring) are reversible, so you get twice the life out of it. An expensive initial outlay, but i have never regretted owning it and positively love the thing! Go for it! |
