Brompton Lightweight M-Type

When it comes to folding bikes, the Brompton is a design classic. Tweaked over almost 20 years, the clever design results in what is probably the smallest useable folding bike ever. The riding does not suffer either - rear suspension soaks up vibration from the road and the seating position is upright and comfortable. When folded, the Brompton stays locked together - no unfolding when you don’t want it to! The chain and oily gear mechanisms stay in the middle of the package, away from trouser legs.

Brompton Light & Sporty S-Type

Now, Brompton have carried out what they say is the biggest set of changes in over 17 years - and, while keeping the perfected Brompton design the same, they’ve added a whole lot more possibilities. There are now three riding positions - the traditional bars, sportier straight bars, or multiposition bars designed for touring. To lighten your bike, you can also choose from a range of Titanium upgrades - the titanium front forks alone save over 250g! There are also new lighting options, new saddles, new luggage, new colour choices, and a bunch of new accessories.

View from the saddle...

The Brompton was always the benchmark fast-folding city bike - now, it’s the benchmark for a lot of other things too ;-)

Animation of Brompton Folding and UnfoldingFolding a Brompton is very easy - first flick the back end under (the bike will stand up by itself like this). Next fold the front wheel back. Fold the handlebars down, and then drop the saddle to lock everything together. The left pedal even folds up out of the way - the right one is already tucked under the front wheel. To unfold, just do the same thing in reverse!

Easy to carry when you have to...

The Brompton is perfectly suited to what some people (rather grandly!) call “multi-modal transport” - basically, that means using a bike along with other forms of transport, like buses or trains. The Brompton is small enough to fit into luggage racks on trains, sit beside you on the bus, or easily go into a taxi. And because it folds so quickly (15 seconds, with practice), you don’t run the risk of missing your connection. What could be easier, or more convenient?
