Heinzmann motor systems are made in Germany - Heinzmann are a company with a long and distinguished history, and they now specialise in electric motors for a wide range of applications. They’ve been developing their high-quality hub motors for over 15 years.
All Heinzmann hub motors are brushed-DC motors - the type Heinzmann have tested extensively and know are tough and reliable. These drive a two-stage gearbox, which drives the wheel through a roller clutch - so there’s absolutely no drag when the motor is not being used, and because the motor is brushed it’s also very smooth - there’s no “cogging” (notchiness in the power).
Heinzmann make a range of motors, for front and back wheel, for speeds up to 23mph (which aren’t road-legal), and with different amounts of torque.
You can also choose to have an E-Bike - where the power is purely controlled by the throttle, or a Pedelec, where the throttle is only enabled if you’re pedalling.
You can choose nylon gears in the gearbox which are quieter, or steel gears for a higher torque motor which will give more “grunt” on hills.
Finally, you can choose to have the motor in the front or the back - the back motor has a screw-on thread for standard 7-speed freewheels.
