The Mountain Drive is so simple it’s amazing, yet so well made it will last for ever. An epicyclic gear system is built into the crankset, and you shift by tapping a button on the end of the axle with your heel.

The Mountain Drive is made in Switzerland, beautifully machined to last a lifetime. Two versions are available:

Mountain Drive: This has two ratios - 1:1 and a 2.5:1 downshift. Perfect for adding a complete new set of lower gear ratios.

Speed Drive: This has ratios of 1:1 and an overdrive of 1:1.65. Good for recumbents where you need more speed, or folders with small wheels.

High Speed Drive: A development of the Speed Drive, this has a direct 1:1 ratio and an overdrive of 1:2.5. The HSD has a 29-tooth sprocket only.

Special versions of all systems are available for Bromptons, Birdys, and most other unusual bikes. Have a play with our gear calculation software to see how these drives will alter your gearing.

Prices for all systems start at £275, and we can also manage the special bottom-bracket machining required to fit the systems.

Order Form:

Speed Drive (£275)
or  Mountain Drive (£275)
or  High Speed Drive (£275)

Mountain Drive only:

The Mountain Drive is available with a standard torque arm on the right, or with conical cups. The standard arm lets you fit the unit without any machining of the bottom bracket shell, but it needs a “normal” chainstay to bolt to.
Alternatively, the conical cups let you fit the unit to anything, but they do require machining of the bottom bracket shell. For the Speed Drive and High Speed Drive, only conical cups are possible.

Please select:  Standard torque arm   or  Conical Cups

Milling cutter:

If you order the Speed Drive, High Speed Drive, or Mountain Drive with conical cups, you need to machine a 45-degree miter into the bottom bracket shell. There are several options for doing this:

  • Get us to do the fitting - we charge £15 to fit the unit. We can arrange shipping if you are too far from Glasgow to bring your bike in person.
  • Find a good local bike shop with a 45-degree mitering tool - they are quite rare, though ;-)
  • Buy the cutting tool - £150
  • Borrow the tool - we charge £150 to your card, and refund it when we get the cutter safely back. Borrowing fee - £5
